WHY LEARN MORE THAN YOU HAVE TO???
His use of "reason" is why he is, or atleast should be important to our a time He uses deductive reasoning to arrive at "truths" that in most times amount to errors. He is supposed to have begun his "system" by doubting his own existence. He got past this obstacle by declaring "I think, therefore I am." Grammatico-logic would conclude that the utterance of "I" establishes a pretty good indication of the existence of an intelligence capable of reflecting on its own existence. He is admired for the rigorous application of Aristotelian logic, but arrived at no more useful truths than St. Thomas who did the same thing for Christian theology. Aristotle suffered more at the hands of the saint, it should be said. But he deserves real respect for his contributions to mathematics. It is he who first used the alphabetical letters to stand for unknowns. He used variables! In the end he basically made people start to think on their own and start to doubt everything. They learned to check the source of their information rather than believing everything they are told.
